LASER HAIR REMOVAL
LASER HAIR REMOVAL
Laser hair removal is a popular alternative to waxing and shaving. This is largely due to the fact that laser hair removal provides permanent results and is less expensive than maintaining a waxing and shaving routine for a lifetime. Additionally, there’s no recovery time needed after a treatment—so no more doing the waxing-waddle or battling razor burn.
HOW DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORK?
Laser hair removal is a technique that uses a focused beam of laser light to target the hair follicles. During treatment, the laser is moved over the skin and the area is treated one section at a time. At each treatment point, the hair in the follicle absorbs the light energy, causing the follicle to heat up and be destroyed. After treatment, the follicle is no longer able to produce new hair.
By using different laser platforms with different wavelengths of light, we are able to treat a variety of hair and skin colors. We use different settings to target different hair colors while protecting the skin from damage.
HOW TO PREPARE
STAY OUT OF THE SUN
Follow your doctor's advice for avoiding sun exposure before and after treatment. Whenever you go out, apply a broad-spectrum, SPF30 sunscreen.
AVOID OTHER HAIR REMOVAL METHODS
Plucking, waxing and electrolysis can disturb the hair follicle and should be avoided at least four weeks before treatment.
SHAVING TREATMENT AREA
Trimming and shaving is recommended atleast 24-72 hours prior to laser treatment. It removes hair above the skin that can result in surface skin damage from burnt hairs, but it leaves the hair shaft intact below the surface.
REMEMBER TO MOISTURIZE
After your treatment, moisturize the treated area with a thin layer of Vaseline® or Aquaphor® at least three times daily as needed to help reduce any irritation.
STAY OUT OF THE SUN
We strongly recommend you avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for a minimum of three days after your treatment, and always apply sunblock with SPF 50+ to the treated area any time you are outside. Also, use barrier protection such as wide-brimmed hats, large sunglasses and protective clothing.
STAY COOL & DRY
Time to reschedule your beach, spa & trainer sessions...you should avoid steam rooms, saunas, hot tubs, pedicures and exercise/sweating for 24 hours, and avoid swimming for at least three days after your treatment.
These include harsh soaps, medicated washes, scrubs, peels, and topical prescription products, such as retinoids for at least three days. We recommend applying only Vaseline, Aquaphor, hydrocortisone 1%, or sunscreen as needed, as well as same-day makeup if you need to. Reminder: refrain from scrubbing the area!
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT
Laser hair removal usually requires two to six treatments. The interval between treatments will vary depending on the location. On areas where hair grows quickly, such as the upper lip, the treatment might be repeated in four to eight weeks. On areas of slow hair growth, such as the back, the treatment might be every 12 to 16 weeks.
For each treatment you'll wear special goggles to protect your eyes from the laser beam. An assistant might shave the site again if necessary. The doctor might apply a topical anesthetic to your skin to reduce any discomfort during treatment.
WHAT ARE THE BENIFITS?
No More Ingrown Hairs or Razor Burn
One of the benefits of professional laser hair removal is that you can reduce the amount of unwanted hair while avoiding razor burn or ingrown hairs. When each follicle is treated, the follicle will become damaged and the hair will fall out on its own. This can leave smooth skin that is free from irritation.
Permanent Hair Removal
Rather than repeating your unwanted hair treatments every one to two weeks, you will get to enjoy permanently smooth skin. Some hair growth may still occasionally happen in the treatment area, but laser hair removal offers permanent hair reduction that is much easier to maintain.
